Depending on what things really and truly currently look like, you could use Macrium Reflect Free and possibly Partition Wizard Free to move things around and get Windows onto one (of your ultimate two?) M.2 SSD drives with the other (one or two) drives repurposed for use as "data". Please clarify exactly what drives you really do currently have installed, and that your Windows boot drive is really on the HDD spinner instead of being factory installed by Lenovo onto the PM981 as I would have expected it to be. And then you might as well leave your HDD spinner installed as well and use it for "data", so that your machine would have THREE drives. Then you install the Samsung 960 Pro M.2 SSD into this daughtercard. You can only add a second M.2 NVMe SSD if you buy a daughtercard PCIe-to-NVMe x4 adapter card and install it in the second x16/x4/x1 negotiable slot. In otherwords, the M910s is designed to have one 2.5" SATA HDD spinner (or 2.5" SATA SSD) as well as one M.2 NVMe SSD.

And you say that M.2 SSD socket is already occupied by the PM981 M.2 SSD. You can't just replace it with an M.2 NVMe SSD because that type of drive connects through a totally different special motherboard socket and a PCIe x4 connection, of which the M910s motherboard has just one. You're absolutely sure the WD blue drive is the boot drive? That is contrary to my theory of how Lenovo builds these machines with multiple drives pre-installed.ĭid you buy the M910s with both drives installed at the factory, or did you buy it with just the WD blue drive and then later added your own Samsung PM981?Īs far as wanting to replace the WD Blue HDD spinner, it's a 2.5" SATA drive and is installed in the primary 2.5" drive bay using a SATA connection. If you bought this machine from Lenovo with these two drives installed at the factory, I would have thought Lenovo would have configured things so that the M.2 NVMe SSD was where Windows was placed, and the HDD spinner configured as a second "data" drive.

If I understand your description, your M910s has TWO drives currently installed: (1) 2.5" SATA WD Blue HDD spinner, and (2) Samsung PM981 M.2 NVMe SSD.

even if the machine also includes a 2.5" SATA HDD spinner. I thought that when Lenovo ships a PC with an SSD, that the OS is installed on the SSD.
